Man, let me tell y’all, Gail’s Soul Food in Goose Creek was flat-out good. I had the meatloaf one day and the chicken the next, and both of ’em was hittin’. That’s the kind of food that’ll have you sittin’ there quiet for a minute just so you can enjoy it right. The meatloaf was seasoned real nice, tender, and full of flavor like somebody grandma was back there in the kitchen puttin’ love in every bite. Then that chicken? Lord, it was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and cooked just right. Ain’t nothing worse than dry chicken, and this definitely wasn’t that. Now the sides really sealed the deal for me. That mac and cheese was homemade for real—cheesy, creamy, and baked just the way it ought to be. And them yams? Whew. Them things was on a whole different level. Sweet, soft, and so good I almost wanted another order. I’m tellin’ you now, if I stayed closer, I’d eat here all the time. Gail’s Soul Food gets a straight 5 outta 5 from me.
Apr 17, 2026 · Google ReviewWalked in, busy but attentive, there's a person for orders, there's a person to greet you at the register, and the kitchen is booming. Me and my friend ordered online and they were packing the orders when we walked in, asking us for our name. One thing that stood out to me was how the man packing the orders didn't just put the plates in the box but he looked inside the plates, checked the receipt on the bag, making sure we weren't missing anything. They put so much care into each customer. BUT THAT FOOD. THAT FOOD WAS BOOOOOOOOOOM. The flavor, the depth.. the soul omg. It felt like I was eating out of someone mama GOURMET KITCHEN. YALL this my favorite restaurant now. Best soul food in Charleston! More people need to know about this spot.
Mar 3, 2026 · Google ReviewNice restaurant. Good soul food. They forgot my cornbread though and I really wanted it to. I didn't realize it until I had already gotten home in Summerville. That and my rice was a little mushy were my only two complaints.
Nov 23, 2025 · Google ReviewMy first time visiting this wonderful establishment. The first thing that i noticed and loved was the way that my sister and I were greeted. One thing the workers at this establishment makes sure that they greet you with such a warm smile. We had such a wonderful waitress didn't mind answering any questions that we may have. Now let's get to the food, I ordered two pork chops with mac and cheese with green beans and my sister had the same thing except she had the sweet potatoes instead of the green beans. I also ordered a slice of key lime cake. My favorite things were the sweet potatoes and the cake. The pork chops were good. My personal opinion is the green beans could have used a little bit more TLC. I'm not going say that I hated the mac and cheese because I didn't. It just wasn't for me, but then again, I am extremely picky when it comes to baked mac and cheese. However, this will not be my last and only time visiting this establishment.
Jul 28, 2026 · Google ReviewSouthern Cooking Done RIGHT at Gail’s Soul Food — Goose Creek, SC New guy in town looking for some real, signature Southern cooking. I needed a break from all that Texas BBQ and wanted some true soul food — the kind that feels like it came straight from someone’s grandmother’s kitchen. I started with Gail’s Soul Food, and let me tell you… I have zero regrets. Every bite was worth it. I showed up around 4:45 PM, just 15 minutes before closing. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the counter hit me with: “We ain’t frying nothing 10 minutes before we close.” No problem at all, ma’am — that line alone told me I was in the right place. I simply asked, “Alright then… what can I order?” I went with the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, collard greens, green beans, and cabbage. BAM! Everything — and I mean everything — was excellent. The pork chops were tender, well-seasoned, with a nice touch of garlic and smothered perfectly in gravy. The collards were real collards, not canned (unlike too many places in Texas), and seasoned just right. The cabbage was flavorful, and the green beans were on point too. I also order a turkey wing smothered in gravy and it was also very tasty. The restaurant itself was clean, well-decorated, and welcoming. Even though they were about to close, the staff remained friendly, patient, and committed to giving me great service. That says a lot about their pride and professionalism. I truly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the customer service. I’ll definitely be back to try a few more menu items before I head back to Texas. If you’re anywhere near Goose Creek and want real Southern comfort food done right, Gail’s Soul Food is a must-visit.
