⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ We stayed at the Cypress Campground last year and had a wonderful experience, so we decided to return to Santee State Park. This time we stayed in the Lakeshore Campground, and unfortunately it was a completely different experience. The road leading into the campground is in very poor condition, with numerous large potholes that could easily damage an RV if you're not extremely careful. Once inside, the campground layout was confusing to navigate, and many of the campsites had soft, uneven ground. Even my leveling pads sank into the soil, making setup more difficult than expected. One of my biggest concerns was the condition of the trees. During our stay, several branches fell from multiple trees throughout the campground. One branch actually struck my RV and caused minor damage. I think the park should take a closer look at tree maintenance for camper safety. The bathhouse was acceptable for using the restrooms, but I chose not to shower there. It also appeared that too much bleach was being used during cleaning, and some clothing was damaged after coming into contact with it. There were plenty of squirrels and ducks around, which added some wildlife to the experience. There is also a nearby boat ramp and small beach area. Unfortunately, access to the lake for fishing was fairly limited, and the shoreline was cluttered with tree stumps, branches, and other debris. The swimming area also contained a large number of clam and mussel shells, making it uncomfortable to walk in the water. Overall, we found ourselves getting bored because there wasn't much to do in this section of the park. Based on our experiences, I would definitely recommend the Cypress Campground over the Lakeshore Campground. We know Santee State Park can provide a great camping experience—we just don't think the Lakeshore section currently lives up to that standard.

Jan 14, 2026 · Google ReviewNice campground with heated bathrooms and potable water at each site. Beautiful views of the lake and great trails nearby to walk on. Rules were not very well enforced. Some parties were playing VERY loud music for a few hours. We looked for the camp host, but could not find one. Our neighbors at the site next to us also had flood lights on overnight which made it hard to sleep in our tent. May not be the best choice for tent campers or those looking for a peaceful outdoor experience.
Dec 13, 2025 · Google ReviewBeautiful park! I stayed at site 90 for two nights. I've got a 30 foot RV which was challenging, but not impossible to navigate the narrow road and get parked in the site without hitting trees. The lake is beautiful. I'll have to come back and stay longer. It looks like there's regulars that were setting up for a Halloween party. This park is definitely worth staying at. Be careful with GPS navigation. I used RVLife navigation which took me down a couple miles of narrow muddy clay road. Luckily I've got 4x4, so we just got a little muddy. Use the paved road with the park sign no matter what the GPS tells you.
