Striper
The spring striper bite for March and April on both lakes and the Santee river has been very slow. The muddy water has had a lot to do with the bite this season. Finally fish have showed up on the rocks good the last couple days in the diversion canal. Also reports of fish in 48 to 50+ foot out in the main Channel on Lake Moultrie. Fish with Carolina Riggs with live herring and shad.
Bass
B.A.S.S. report from captain Kyle Austin
Bass are mostly Post spawn. Early morning bass can be found feeding on threadfin Shad early in the morning where Shad are spawning. Use spinnerbait, bladed jigs, swimbaits, and top water lures that imitate a Shad. Later in the day you can find bass on cypress trees and stumps expecially in areas where bream are spawning. Use Texas rigs, weightless worms and jigs to target these bass. Overall bass fishing is great right now and should be same pattern for rest of the month.
Bream
May is a great month for the big copperhead blue bream to be on the bed. Look for beds in 5 to 8 foot of water out on the open flats and around the deeper sandbars located on several of the main islands on the lakes. Fish crickets under a float for best results.
Catfish
The catfish bite on both lakes are on fire. Still plenty of good catfish are being caught shallow both morning and evening. The bite on the diversion canal has been phenomenal with a lot of 2 to 10 pound blues and Channel Cats with the occasional. for the shallow water bite set up around Cypress trees in 4 to 5 foot of water and fish cut herring or shad. In the diversion canal drift fishing with Carolina Rigs bumping the bottom with cut herring and shad have been producing. drifting out in the main lakes in 20-30 foot of water has also been producing good numbers of catfish. Shellcracker
You should still find plenty of fish around Sawgrass and Cypress trees in 2 to 4 foot of water on the bed this new moon and the full moon this month. Fish red worms or wigglers under a cork for the best results.
