Got to see a barn owl, turtle, bluejay, copper head snake, couple of lizards, & a pair red headed woodpeckers. Not to mention tons of really tall trees and add to my knowledge throughout the information plaques. The "hike" was an easy walk on a wooden path with railings. It was an experience I would recommend to anyone!

Sep 3, 2025 · Google Review• We visited on Tuesday morning in late December (day after Christmas). There were no updated on their website but apparently the visitor center at the Bluff unit was closed. But on a positive note we did see that the Wildlife Drive at the Cuddo Unit of the Refuge was open. Since we had about 90 mins schedule to explore the visitor center and the Bluff Unit we decided to drive out of our way in the wrong direction to check out the wildlife drive. Tip, the address provided for the Cuddo Unit leads you down to the end of a dirt road. When you see the signed for the Cuddo Unit stop and just turn left into there. Don’t listen to Google Maps. • The wildlife drive was nice. We didn’t see much wildlife for it being winter we suppose. We went down alligator ally and didn’t see anything either. Overall it was a nice drive and something to do in the Santee Wildlife Refuge since the visitor center was closed. We would give this drive another chance maybe in a different season. We did not see any bathrooms along the drive or at the entrance.
