Peggy Wu🐾 **Miles with Angel Index (MAI): 76/100** 🐾 We visited **Old Santee Canal Park** on an extremely hot day (34°C/101°F). Though it was a "Short Visit" due to the heat, it is a wonderful, dog-friendly spot! The park scores a fantastic 9/10 for Shade Cover and Ground Temp, thanks to its beautiful, shaded wood trails that protect little paws from hot asphalt. It’s also incredibly short-leg friendly (9/10) with easy paths. Dogs are allowed in most primary scenic areas (8/10), except inside the museum. Waste infrastructure and grassy relief are excellent (9/10). However, hydration access is limited (4/10)—make sure to bring plenty of your own water, and definitely watch out because there are alligators in the river! 🐊 Overall, a lovely, well-shaded adventure. We’ll definitely consider coming back when the weather is cooler!

Tina cummingtonWe loved the museum but the boardwalk was a huge disappointment. We sorta expected the boardwalk to travel along the river and offer up some views, but alas it was not to be. The boardwalk was in somewhat poor condition in spots. Slippery in most and covered in leaves a lot. The actual shelter was gross. Someone left 2 bags of dog poo there. It seems like noone has taken a look at the pathways in a long long time. We don't need to go back there again. Sad face.
