Eutaw Spring Battlefield
Eutaw Springs is the site of the last Revolutionary War battle in South Carolina. It took place Sept. 8, 1781 when Gen. Nathanael Greene's 2,000 troops attacked a British camp on Eutaw Creek under the command of British Col. Alexander Stewart. The Americans drove out the British, but then stopped to loot the tents, and the British counterattack drove off Greene's men. Still, Greene's goal of preventing troops in South Carolina from joining up with Cornwallis in Virginia was accomplished. The battleground park on the banks of Lake Marion includes a historic marker telling the story of the battle. Also on the grounds is the tomb of British Major John Majoribanks, an accomplished commander.

Jeffrey WeissThis is a quiet unassuming memorial to a revolutionary war battle that ultimately discouraged British forces to abandon a presence in South Carolina. No fees, also no guides. Well cared for nonetheless. Over the years the D.A.R., South Carolina legislation, and USGS have contributed monuments and historical markers with information and accounts of the battle. We spent almost an hour strolling about and appreciating the memorial.

Jason BrobstGreat area for a history lesson for kids or have lunch. It's free to get in, so you can roam freely at your own pace. Looks like you are able to fish and there are two benches right on the water banks. The grounds are well maintained and no litter anywhere. Definitely worth the quick visit I did!! 🙂

Henry GoldbergNice battlefield. It's small, but they're still able to fit tons of informative markers and signs all throughout. Very important battle in the war. There is also a nice view of the water. Pretty quiet as well, with not many other people. Neat battlefield overall.

Tina LangnesSo much history here. Although it is fading in time. The park has some great history, but the maintenance is poor. There were several spots of poison ivy and tall grass. But the history alone is so worth the quick stop. And a beautiful lake to look at.
